Rifle Shooting and Civilian Marksmanship Program
Rifles may be shot at the 100 yard outdoor range. The range closes each day at sunset. No shooting on Sunday before noon.
Eye and ear protection MUST be worn when under the shooting station roof when the range is "hot".
Guns, ammo, and magazines may not be handled when the red light is on. No exceptions!
Club owned target frames are not to be used when shooting shotguns on the high power range.
High Power Range Notice: On September 20th, the Board of Directors voted to change the rules for targets on the high power range. From this point forward, only paper targets are allowed.
Notice: The outdoor range will be closed from time to time for Police training. Please see the calendar page for dates and times.
We appreciate your patience, and apologize for any inconvenience. These periodic closures of the high power range not only benefit the police and general public by promoting ongoing excellence in training for the police, but also allow the club to finance many of the small projects and maintenance that let the club provide the quality of facility that it does without having to raise the annual dues.
Regularly Scheduled Rifle Events
CMP - Civilian Marksmanship Program - This ongoing series of matches is part of a nationwide program. See the calendar page for schedule details.
Wednesdays - Junior Rifle - this is open to the public for children ages 10 to 20. Cost for the evening is $3.00. This is shot in the indoorrange from 6 PM to 8 PM, so access for pistol shooting is restricted during those hours.
Fridays - 6 to 8 PM Junior Rifle Team practice in the indoor range. The team is really hot this year; let's all support their efforts!
Civilian Marksmanship Program
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) promotes firearms safety training and rifle practice for all qualified U.S. citizens with special emphasis on youth. Hanson Rod and Gun Club offers firearms safety training and marksmanship courses as well as the opportunity for continued practice and competition. The CMP was created by the U.S. Congress. The original purpose was to provide civilians an opportunity to learn and practice marksmanship skills so they would be skilled marksmen if later called on to serve the U.S. military. Over the years the emphasis of the program shifted to focus on youth development through marksmanship.
We are proud of our Service Rifle Clinics. If you have never participated, we invite you to do so. If you have, we invite you back. The purpose of this clinic is to create interest in high power shooting especially among junior shooters and to promote civilian marksmanship in general on the South Shore.
